Textbooks

Description An introduction to a variety of discrete mathematics topics including logic, proofs, sets, functions, sequences, summations, recurrence relations, basic number theory, mathematical induction, recursion/recursive definitions, counting, and graph theory. Examples of real-world applications will be emphasized.

Expectations
  • Read the sections of the textbook on the schedule before each class
  • Do all of the exercises in the book while you read.
  • Answer all of the Reading Questions when you are done reading
  • Attend class and participate.
  • In particular, if you do not ask questions about the reading, exercises, or reading questions, I assume that you understand the content fully. So if you do not, I expect that you are asking questions in class.
  • Limit your use of AI to assisting you in learning, not in completing assignments. You will learn a lot more if you spend some time struggling with the material.

Advice
  • Do the things mentioned in Expectations!
  • Make your focus in this course on learning rather than on getting a certain grade.
  • Do not be afraid to ask questions in class. If you do not understand something, it is very likely that you are not the only one, and asking questions will help clarify things for everybody.
