JaDE Troubleshooting

  1. The first thing you should make sure of is that you do not navigate away from the JaDE start page while you are working. If you do, the applet will close, and any work you performed since you last saved will be lost.
  2. If you try to start JaDE and it doesn't work, you most likely need to install the Java runtime environment, which can be downloaded for free by clicking on the following link:
        http://dlc.sun.com/jdk/j2re-1_4_2_07-windows-i586-p.exe
Once you've installed that, JaDE should run on your PC just as it does in our classroom.

  3. If you attempt to mail a program in and it takes a really long time (> 10-15 seconds), you probably have outgoing email virus scanning turned on in your anti-virus program (most likely Symantec anti-virus). This product breaks the SMTP protocol; the only way currently to solve the problem is to turn off outgoing email scanning. Incoming email scanning is more important to maintain your machine, and can be left on, as JaDE doesn't actually receive any email.

  4. If after you click the Run button, a new window does not pop up with your application in it, you may have some popup blocker on your web browser. Either disable the popup blocker, or allow popups from the site you are running JaDE from (www.cs.hope.edu).
